Meeting the native wildlife at the 1,500 acre Parc Omega is a treat. Today, we will arrive in Canada’s capital, Ottawa and stay at the iconic Fairmont Chateau Laurier for the next two nights.
Commencing the day very early (2:30am), and after posting yesterday’s post, we did our morning walk before another good Scenic breakfast. Our “on and gone” time for the day was 9:30am headed for Ottawa, the capital of Canada. The coach journey wasn’t too hard not to have a few naps along the way. The colours of the autumn trees are definitely on the change with hints of bright reds and strong yellows on the way.
Prior to lunch, we stopped at the Parc Omega to view the ‘wild’ animals of North America. Consequently, most of this post is taken up with photos of these tame but wild beasts of the continent.
Along a 12-kilometre (7.5 mi) nature route are lakes, meadows, small valleys, forests, and rocky hills. It is home to many wildlife species including beaver, elk, raccoon, timber wolf, coyote, muskox, deer, turtle, boar, red fox, Alpine ibex, caribou, black bear, moose, wild turkey, and bison. During the summer there are shows featuring birds of prey especially bald eagles. The site also has a restaurant with a panoramic view. The park is open daily, year round.
The park is a drive-through experience, meaning visitors stay in their cars and drive through the park on a winding trail. They also offer three walking trails, playgrounds and picnic areas.
Our dinner in the evening was a Scenic Choice experience. Our choice was very tasty and filling; will have to do 10,000 steps before breakfast again, to keep that weight down.
Tomorrow, we take a tour around the city of Ottawa and do a Culinary Inspection of a dining region of the city.
